Strengthened Business Continuity & Digital Resilience | Ofsted Case Study

Ofsted is the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. They inspect services providing education and skills for learners of all ages. They also inspect and regulate services that care for children and young people. After the implementation of a new inspection management system for Early Years inspections, Energise Technology worked with Ofsted to review the business continuity arrangements.

Project Overview

The Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills (Ofsted) is a non-ministerial department of the UK government, reporting to Parliament. Ofsted is responsible for inspecting educational institutions across England, including state and independent schools, childcare providers, fostering and adoption agencies, and teacher training programmes. It also regulates early years and children’s social care services.

After implementing a new inspection management system for Early Years inspections, Ofsted partnered with Energise Technology to review and enhance its business continuity plan (BCP) — ensuring resilience, safeguarding, and continuity of service in all circumstances.

Our Approach

Our work focused on strengthening Ofsted’s ability to continue inspection activities in the event of technical disruptions or data unavailability. We conducted a full review of existing digital systems and information flows to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.

Our collaboration included:

  • Reviewing all key inspection information sources

  • Identifying critical data and document dependencies

  • Developing business continuity planning to ensure inspections — including safeguarding-led inspections — could continue seamlessly during system outages or failures

The Outcome

The result was a comprehensive and actionable business continuity framework that allows Ofsted to carry out inspections with confidence, even during unexpected disruptions. By integrating long-term digital planning with effective risk management, we helped Ofsted strengthen both its operational resilience and its safeguarding responsibilities.

Our partnership ensured that inspectors have reliable access to essential information and processes, maintaining the quality and integrity of education and social care inspections across England.

Looking Ahead

We’re proud to have supported Ofsted in developing a resilient framework that underpins its commitment to safeguarding and educational standards. Energise Technology continues to help government and education bodies adapt to an evolving digital landscape with solutions built for reliability, compliance, and long-term success.
